    • Although German is usually cited as an outstanding example of a highly inflected language, the degree of inflection is considerably less than in Old German or in other old Indo-European languages such as Latin, Ancient Greek, or Sanskrit, or, for instance, in modern Icelandic or Russian. The three genders have collapsed in the plural, which now behaves, grammatically, somewhat as a fourth gender.

Pytanie #1:

Were the NAZI's really as bad as history makes them out to be?

I've been seeing a lot of extremes on this matter. On one hand, the History books speak of the NAZI's as savages without a cause, relentlessly killing anyone who looked slightly different and performing sick, horrible experiments on the Jews, and pretty much just trying to ruin everyone's day.

On the totally opposite extreme, there are those who suggest the holocaust didn't happen, and that the prison camps were intended more for Soviet prisoners, and further, that the deaths in said camps were due to disease and were not intended.

I've heard similar extremes towards Hitler, as being very respectable and influential, and as a fanatical racist.

While the Evil-Nazi view is pretty much the only one taught in schools, most likely to prevent any kind of neo-nazi gangs, the not-as-bad-as-you-would-think-Nazi view considers the fact that a war's victors are the ones who write history. What I mean is, historically, the war's winners exaggerate the evils of the enemy and victimize themselves to improve patriotism/morale during reconstruction. More direct cases are in the propaganda posters describing the enemy as ferocious villains, rather than a very similar group of people.

So my question is, is one or the other correct, or is there a solid middle ground we all finally agree on. I'm strongly German-American, and am interested in German culture and history, but this is a big hole in the timeline, because it doesn't seem to me like the Germans would go on an all-out rampage without some at least decently rational reason for doing so.
I never really said I agreed totally with the anti-holocaust belief. of course it happened. But seriously, I'm sick of everyone saying the germans were inhuman, unworthy of living, and that they should have been destroyed before they saw the light of day. it's that kind of thinking that started WWII in the first place with the Treaty of Versailles.

I'm not saying the Nazi's were good, I'm just saying to realize the Nazi's were a group of people. HUMANS, HOMO SAPIENS. How does saying they're inhuman make you any better?
Good answers, guys. That last addition was pointed at the first 2 answers. one for assuming I thought the holocaust didn't happen, the second for not even wanting to consider anything but the default point of view.

Pytanie #2:

Looking for inspiration and new wisdom in books.Needed urgently.Care to share?

Please share with me some of the books and authors that inspire you, that move you, that give you perspective.

I've been struggling to find books to distract and to encourage a person with depression. Any good read is a distraction but I've been aiming at offering books with a little more than a cutesy or funny story.I would like to offer him books with interesting, perhaps moving, perspectives on pain, struggle, survival, happiness, peace or any subject that might be of help to the person.

I am completely over the self-help books.I've read so many and I think they are an insult to the person's intelligence. I am mostly focusing on non-fiction.I am not a very accomplished reader, beyond Dostoevsky,Kafka,Nietzsche,Trotsky and other dead Russians and Germans, I don't know anything.

So I come to you for ideas and suggestions. Both fiction and non-fiction work.I just want to find some stories or ideas that can give a bit of hope or an interesting perspective.I don't want to cure depression through reading.Just something that could contribute in a small way to win his daily battle.Books on any discipline, philosophy or philosopher, history, a novel, a memoir, anything with substance. It doesn't have to be a happy story, even if its hard to read,I want it to be a worthy read.

*I know someone will but if you really want to help me,please don't say the Bible.

Thanks!

Pytanie #4:

can you help me understand?

ok well i was doing some resarch for my history assignment, I was studying about anti-semitism from the ancient times to now . i started to read some other books in the public library other than what was perscribed by the school. they say that hitler decided to get rid of the jews from germany as they controlled approx 98% of the baking systems in germany in the 1930's. Apparently germany was in a great depression at this time and when hitler came into power he said it was necessary to expel jewish influence in germanys financial system. after he did this germany apparently recovered greatly and the depression was greatly deminished.

Im not saying i agree with hitlers other plans but why wouldnt the schools history books mention this?... i mean to me , from what i understand so far anyway, it should be explained why hitler did what he did in the first place intead of jumping into the part of the holocaust. I mean it just seems to me that if youre going to teach history you should teach it from the beginning, not from the middle.
Also it does sort of seem to me that what ever else hitler did which i could never agree with, it does seem as though if the jews controlled that much of germanys financial system in the 30's that they didnt really try to help the germans out until hitler stepped in. I mean i just think there seems to be a very one sided argument against him. what ever else he did i dont see why there cant be two ways to view him.

im only 16 and i suppose i dont really know enough but i do think i credit him with that much. i mean why did the jews in power in germany let the germans suffer that much before the war. they also declared war on germany before ww2.

i asked my parents but they dont know enough.

Pytanie #11:

How important is foreign language in high school for a UC?

I want to go to either UC Berkeley or UC Davis.

Now, my school offers a program that is science-technology based and puts me in honors classes and helps me get scholarships based on my interest in science. I am a freshmen right now, and I have 3 science-related classes (Astronomy, General Science, and Biotech I), taking Honors English and plan on taking it all 4 years as honors or AP. My average GPA is around 3.6-4.0. On my STAR Testing from 8th grade I had a 554/600 in science, English: 479/600 Math: 488/600, History: 461/600. I plan on taking math for at least 3 years, maybe 4. I definitely will be taking a lot of science-based classes.

I usually do very well on tests and most likely will have a high GPA and test scores. I really don't want to take more than 2 years of foreign language, but most colleges "recommend" 3-4 years. Another language wont really be helpful for what I want to go into, considering I probably will be working alone or in a small group of other native-English speakers, working with biological data such as plants, dna, blood, stem cells. I don't see why I would need 3-4 years of a foreign language such as spanish, when large scientific words usually are German or French or Latin-based.

How important are foreign languages to colleges? Have you or anyone you know gotten into a University with only 2 years of world language? Please answer if you are experienced (at least a senior in high school or older)
I am planning on either directly starting at a university after high school, or getting an internship that is hopefully science-related and start at a CC and transfer over.

I do NOT do any activities outside of school (sports, band, cheerleading/dance) but I DO community service/volunteer work [15-20 hours per school year]

Pytanie #12:

What do you think about Dr. Tanay's analysis of Islamic extremism?

A German's View on Islam: Dr. Emmanuel Tanay
A man, whose family was German aristocracy prior to World War II, owned a number of large industries and estates. When asked how many German people were true Nazis, the answer he gave can guide our attitude toward fanaticism.'Very few people were true Nazis,' he said, 'but many enjoyed the return of German pride, and many more were too busy to care.I was one of those who just thought the Nazis were a bunch of fools. So, the majority just sat back and let it all happen. Then, before we knew it, they owned us, and we had lost control, and the end of the world had come. My family lost everything. I ended up in a concentration camp and the Allies destroyed my factories.'
We are told again and again by 'experts' and 'talking heads' that Islam is the religion of peace and that the vast majority of Muslims just want to live in peace. Although this unqualified assertion may be true, it is entirely irrelevant. It is meaningless fluff, meant to make us feel better, and meant to somehow diminish the spectre of fanatics rampaging across the globe in the name of Islam.
The fact is that the fanatics rule Islam at this moment in history. It is the fanatics who march. It is the fanatics who wage any one of 50 shooting wars worldwide. It is the fanatics who systematically slaughter Christian or tribal groups throughout Africa and are gradually taking over the entire continent in an Islamic wave. It is the fanatics who bomb, behead, murder, or honour-kill. It is the fanatics who take over mosque after mosque. It is the fanatics who zealously spread the stoning and hanging of rape victims and homosexuals. It is the fanatics who teach their young to kill and to become suicide bombers.
The hard, quantifiable fact is that the peaceful majority, the 'silent majority,' is cowed and extraneous.
Communist Russia was comprised of Russians who just wanted to live in peace, yet the Russian Communists were responsible for the murder of about 40 million people. The peaceful majority were irrelevant. China's huge population was peaceful as well, but Chinese Communists managed to kill a staggering 70 million people.
The average Japanese individual prior to World War II was not a warmongering sadist. Yet, Japan murdered and slaughtered its way across South East Asia in an orgy of killing that included the systematic murder of 12 million Chinese civilians; most killed by sword, shovel, and bayonet. And who can forget Rwanda , which collapsed into butchery. Could it not be said that the majority of Rwandans were 'peace loving'History lessons are often incredibly simple and blunt, yet for all our powers of reason, we often miss the most basic and uncomplicated of points: Peace-loving Muslims have been made irrelevant by their silence. Peace-loving Muslims will become our enemy if they don't speak up, because like my friend from Germany , they will awaken one day and find that the fanatics own them, and the end of their world will have begun. Peace-loving Germans, Japanese, Chinese, Russians, Rwandans, Serbs, Afghans, Iraqis, Palestinians, Somalis, Nigerians, Algerians, and many others have died because the peaceful majority did not speak up until it was too late. As for us who watch it all unfold, we must pay attention to the only group that counts--the fanatics who threaten our way of life. Lastly, anyone who doubts that the issue is serious and just deletes this email without sending it on, is contributing to the passiveness that allows the problems to expand. So, extend yourself a bit and send this on and on and on! Let us hope that thousands, world-wide, read this and think about it, and send it on - before it's too late.

How can we get our German Shepherd to eat?

Here is the history:

• He came from a Rescue place in Tennessee
• In June he was brought up to my hometown here in New York State
• A Foster mom watched over him until we came along and adopted him
• He ate his dry dog food with the Foster mom
• We got him alittle over a week ago and since then, he won't touch his dry dog food
• We mixed in a boiled hamburger with his dry dog food but he picks out only the hamburger
• This has been going on for over a week now
• We switched his dry dog food to a NEW dry dog food. Same thing: he won't eat it

We're calling the Vet after work, but I wanted to see if anyone else had a similar experience and what did you do?

Pytanie #16:

I'm getting a little burned out on the novel I'm writing, and I want a new project to work on on alternate days?

I have an idea, but I'm not sure if it would be better as a novel or as a screenplay. Basically, here's a brief synopsis: An alternate history in which the Axis powers win WW2. After the allies are mopped up Japan and Germany go to war, and some decades later the Japanese find they have no choice but to board several rocket ships and colonize other planets around distant stars, leaving Earth to the Germans. The Germans perfect cloning technology and clone all the leading Nazis repeatedly, putting them in all important positions; eventually all upper class Germans are clones of Hitler, Himmler, etc., while anyone with unique dna is a slave. Eventually the Nazis decide to hunt down the Japanese on the various worlds they've fled to, and for this purpose they produce thousands of clones of Reinhard Heydrich, indoctrinate them in Nazi thought, put them into cryogenic hibernation and send them to the suspected Japanese colonies in numerous rockets. The main character is Reinhard Heydrich # 1256, who has a crisis of conscience and works with the Japanese to help fight off his fellow clones.
What think? Novel or screenplay?
Perhaps I wasn't entirely clear on this, Luft Waffle, but this takes place decades after WW2, and that makes all the difference; the rocketry used by the Japanese is entirely different from what was developed by the Germans during the war, I'm thinking fusion-based, and they only abandon Earth after a very long and destructive war, which culminated in a massive nuclear exchange that reduced much of the planet to a radioactive wasteland. Meanwhile, the Nazi party has metamorphosed into a religion, and their government into a theocracy, with Hitler the Messiah and high king-priest of every temple; naturally, one of them remains in ultimate and absolute command. The cloning only took place long after Hitler's death, so what he would have thought of this development and its effect on the leadership principle is insignificant.
As to why they would want to hunt down the Japanese, there are two reasons: 1) they remain a potential threat, as those who have left may come back for revenge and 2) the initiative to destroy all non-Aryans is now a religious imperative.

In any case, I think I will make it a screenplay.
Oh, and The Man in the High Castle was by Philip K. Dick, not Harry Turtledove. In a sense, I guess you could say this story picks up where that one left off: with Germany preparing an attack on Japan.

So, you want to murder all the Gypsies?

"Britische" is the German equivalent. Why not change your name to this Germanic form?
Could do it in honour of your all time favorite hero, Adolf Hitler? or maybe because you might want to "be" Adolf Hitlers themselves?
And lastly, why the Nazi trend in British (socialist) societ toward Gypsies?
Every "Britische" loves blacks, adore asians, and is absolutely head-over-hills in love with Islam and Muslims, particularly Pakistanis.
Gypsies, now there's a word! it seems to have some magic formula to it, each time to word is uttered to a "Britische" he/she become monsters! Oooh scary!
Why are the "Britische" trying to copy the Nazis? for what earthly reason?
"Herr" Cameron and his "Kabinet" are trying their best to introduce to Nuremburg, pardon me, the House ofLlords proposals for "Britische Blood & Honour" or so it seems.
Maybe they don't want their bloodline tainted with Zigeuner (Gypsy) blood.
Seems to me (I am a Gypsy by the way) that Brits, like the Germans, will one day have their own Jews to slaughter, that is...guess who?...you got it, well done! the Gypsies!
We lost three million (or more) in the last Holocaust, so I guess (sighs) it won't be much fun for us, all our families, men, women and children running through the woods.
Well, I hope the "Britische" enjoy if, (if, I said "if"??? what was I thinking, what a maroon! I meant "When") so, "when" they start to kill men, woman and little children in the street, I hope they enjoy themselves, and I would bet these poor souls will probably never have that much since Hiroshima!

Come on, tell me now...(gently coaxing)
You really wouldn't enjoy that?
There I go again, what an idiot I am!!!! of course you'd enjoy it!, silly me. what a nin-come-poop I am!
Well, there is nothing I can say to make you stop hating us and give us a chance, so I'll say, in regards to "The Next Roma Holocaust" give it your best shot, make a name for yourselves in the history books.
It'll also put a final end to our suffering for being a Gypsy, and close the final chapter of our lives forever. Amen

Spanish-Art??? PLEASE HELP!?

Hey everyone!

SO basically i'm going into my GCSE year next week, which is year 10, and for my GCSE subjects I chose History, Art and Drama. But now that I come to think about it all, I realised that I reaaally suck at art! I'm so bad at it. We had art holiday homework and I just started it and i'm absolutely terrible at art haha, like ive always known i wasnt good but yeah.
So ive been thinking about changing Art to Spanish for my gcse. I'm good at languages, I speak french, english obviously and german fluently. So spanish wouldnt be very hard for me since I speak french. But I want to know if you guys think its worth it?

I mean I like art, but im so bad, and honestly I just dont think I have the patience to learn it, and spanish seems fun. I had to take spanish since year 7, so its been 3 years, but we had 1 hour of spanish a week and we really didnt do any work in the lesson haha, and if i would take it this year there would only be 3 of us, which would be an advantage. Plus speaking 4 languages will be amazing for later in life when im looking for jobs and everything.

Please please pleaaase help me chose, ohh and I need to decide BEFORE THE 2nd of september! Which is in like 3 days, because thats when I go back to school, & i would need to inform my teachers before we start. & if YOU take art as a GCSE subject, does it require a lot of time and work? like do you get a lot of homework? Also if i take it, my teacher would be spanish so its not like she has an accent or whatever.

Thank you all so much in advance, & please help me!(: I'm 14 by the way. (:

Who said that cynical "Great Man" quote...?

It was something like:
"There is no great man, only those who hear the feet of history marching past, and endeavor to grasp upon his coattails."

I cant really remember any better. I tried the big search engines with no luck. It was Clauswitz or Bismark or someone. I dont know why I'm thinking it's a German. Though it might not be Bismark, because I think he believed in the "Great Man."

Pytanie #23:

Could you please comment on these unique names?

boys name: Tybalt is pronounced TIH-bult and it means brave people in German and has never been in the top 1000 boys names.

girls name: Ananda means bliss/happiness and Sanskrit and has also never been in the top 1000 girls names.

Here are the questions:

1. What is your opinion on these names?
2. What would be good nicknames and/or middle names for these names?
3. Which would you use to describe:
i. dislike it, ii. not bad, iii. ok iv. like it, v. love it
4. What kind of person do these names put to mind?
5. Do you know anyone with these names? (description if yes)
6. Any stories/history you have on these names.

By the way, these aren't my favorite names, they're completely random.

Thanks!!
I would really appreciate if all of the questions were answered, and thanks so much to those who DID answer them.

Since some people apparently need this written out more clearly for them: THESE NAMES ARE RANDOM. THEY ARE NOT NAMES THAT I LIKE, OR PLAN ON EVER USING.

ahem, lol. I'm just getting opinions on random, unique names for a potential baby book and/or baby blog.

Also, the VAST majority of people are asked how to pronounce their name. Elena (or in my case, Alena) is a perfectly acceptable name but I'm frequently asked how it's pronounced. Once they hear it, people always say that it's a pretty or cool name. The only way people could avoid having people ask how their name was pronounced was if everyone was name Bob, Will, Sam, John, Katie, Beth, and Tammy, simple names along those lines.

Anyway, thanks again for answering :)
Sorry, one more thing, Tybalt is a Shakesperean name from Romeo and Juliet, so if you've never heard it, you've apparently never been in high school, seeing as the majority of high schools have you read the play. Second of all, I hate made up names, there are thousands of real names that people rarely ever use so it would be silly and pointless to make one up. Thanks again :)

Pytanie #24:

Simple Arithmetic vs. the 6 Million Jews Myth?

"The mass-murder of six million Jews, is a myth. This is admitted and proved primarily by British and American authors, and while withholding my own views, here is some information to consider:
According to evidence led in a paper entitled "The Third Reich", three to four million Jews were murdered in Auschwitz alone. This is mathematically impossible. Auschwitz was in operation for four years. Let's assume only three million people were killed here -- in one year, that would be 750,000 or 62,500 a month -- or 2,083 a day!
According to the German Christian Democratic delegate, Eric Blumenfeld of Hamburg, who was incarcerated at Auschwitz, killings only took place at night, for reasons of secrecy -- a period of 12 hours. Thus, 2,082 people should have been killed every 12 hours out of 24 for 1,460 days (four years).
Assuming the corpses were buried, and seeing that sand is four tenths heavier than the human body (proportionately), at an average of 50 kilograms per body, 70 kilograms of sand would be displaced per corpse [a kilogram is equal to 2.2 pounds for practical purposes]. At 2,083 bodies a day, with a corpse mass of 104.2 metric tons, this would be 145.8 metric tons of soil to be removed daily!
In four years, assuming there were "only" 3 million bodies buried, this would leave 212,868 metric tons of soil piled up somewhere. Where is it? There is also the argument that the bodies were burned (also a mathematical impossibility). The calculations are based on figures and evidence from the ultra-modern and efficient crematorium at Dortmund in Germany. To burn one corpse completely requires 31½ kilograms of coal.
The 2,083 people allegedly killed in Auschwitz daily would have required more than 65 metric tons of coal, which was extremely valuable to the war effort – each day. For Germany, this was impossible.
Burning the bodies was impossible for another reason. In the most modern crematoriums today, one body requires about 2½ hours to be completely cremated. Even if Auschwitz had had 100 burning chambers, the 3 million corpses would have taken 15 years to cremate, burning only in the 12-hour period each day.
Each body produces on average 2 kilograms of ash. Three million corpses would create 6,000 metric tons of ash. This ash, all 6,000 metric tons of it would make quite a heap.
Where were all these ash-heaps after the war?
In closing, I would like to add that all recorded history is on paper and on paper you can write anything, even that 6 million Jews were killed. Paper is patent."

can anyone argue with these figures?

and before anyone goes ona massive rant i am jewish. im just curious.
they were very anal about the record keeping but there is actually only 16 documents on the matter in the beginning of the nuremburg trials and out of that 16 only 4 are said to have any thing remotly to do with the idea. and the evidence in those documents are not allowed in todays hearing for lack of credibility. so no. no vast amount of documentation regarding the gas chambers. it is a myth.
of course it matters if you are told something that is fact by those it benefits for it to believed as fact.
i just find it amazing that although its been shown to be mathematically impossible to have exterminated sucha large number of people in that short space of tiem without that amount of bodies been found of ash piles of dug up earth (and they used advanced technology as recently as 2003 to do so) that noone stops and thinks, maybe i should use my own mind to question this as it clearly makes no sense.

also when people say "where did the 6 million jews go then"... they are forgetting that statistics from censis in the 40's (which was a little faulty but only by a couple of thousand or so) show no decrease of 6million jews. also it should be remembered that until the soviets had to revise their numbers in 1991 it was held that only less than 750,000 jews were taken from russia instead of 4 freakin million. but until they revised that by force they were believed by everyone.
well istead of believing what youve been told go do the math your self. many many revisionists have and they all come up negative. it just could not have been done! use your head instead of sentiment. if some of these people hadnt questioned the soviets then you would be adding almost 4million on to that and telling me the same thing. use your head please.
half an inch thick... ok. well when the supposed landscape where all this was menat to have happend according to the supposed witnesses (no german offical said anthing about where they were meant to have been buried etc) then why if they can detect the minutist trace sameple from rocks atc and even from that they find something. everything leaves a trace. nothing was ever found. and the eyewitnesses were never cross examined which is ridiculous considering the contradictions they all mkae if you read their testomonies. as for the german officials who siad they gassed people, himmler amound others were tortured by the brittish to say that they gassed people so thye would say it happened at nurenburg. later himmler said to his ife that he would have siad anything under those circumstances.

people believed the lampshade and soap story until even debra libstat declared it as a total myth!!!.. but if she and others hadnt finally admitted it you would believe that too.
if the nazis kept good records on this topic then it would not be debateable but like i said there is not!

it might sound inconciebable that there just wasnt gas chambers (look at the lechture and the polish inrtitutes report, no cyclon b traces which effectively means no constant gassings which would have been necessary to do sucha thing.)

the supporters say they dont debate these things because they say its beneath them, however its been showm time and time again where they have something to refute what a revisionist says they go as far a s making tv appearences, but on the 64 questions mostasked by revisionists they make no comment, beacause they know they cannot argue against both mahematics and chemistry.

also kerma 1 is told to everyone who tours there that its in original state but infact in a 1991 interview dr piper admitts that it is not. it was reconstructed to look like one by , again the soviets.
there os much to this that people shut their eyes to.
lmao yes i know i took the tour 2years ago. my friend asked how was it possible given how long it would have taken to actually burn one body!!... the tour guide actually just said "well it is not to my knowledge how"(broken english)... they are told a speil what to say but have no way of backing theur claims up. thats the whole sorry mess of it.
would you care to explain how this occured?.. it cannot be done today (or back) so how was it possible? if you can answer that that would be helpful

closed mind lol.... if anyones is closed my dear its yours. try open yours eyes and see for one second the contradictions and impossibilities.

How related are the Germans to the Vikings?

I know they're both Germanic linguistically, but i figured, if the Vikings were the Danes, what was the relation between the Danes and the Germans?

And on that note, Since Icelandic has hardly changed since Iceland was first settled by the Vikings, and the Angles and Saxons were from northern Germany and Denmark, doesn't that make current Icelandic ridiculously similar to Old English? They still have symbols like the eth, ash, and thorn.

Finally, what subjects do these questions fall under? Just European history, or human migration patterns? This stuff seems to be fascinating me lately.

It was a really great experience, and it really taught me a lot about german culture and I fell in love with the city. Even though it rains a lot, I'm used to it. I live in England, where it is currently raining on me, actually. And of course, Berlin has a great LGBT scene, as well as being one of the focal points of modern european history. When I get my medical degree, I want to move out there.

I'm not a hardcore feminist or anything but I am mildly interested in the course-wish there was a queer studies course but there isn't so this is like the second best thing, haha. I'm kind of hoping there will be lots of lesbians there tooXD I love German though and took it for 3 years in highschool, so a good amount of time has been invested in learning it. I always got pretty good grades in it too- I scored an 83 on my IB diploma. I don't want to get too far away from German and start forgetting it only to decide I want to take it in a year...And I'm going to take the beginners German because I wasn't that good at some of the grammer topics and stuff but I'm wondering if people who take languages like that usually took the courses in high school as well or if they're native speakers looking for a GPA booster or something...I don't want to get screwed by the bell curve....With womens studies, I have to go 2 times a week, at 10:00 and the days I don't have that class I start at 11:00. With German I have to go 4 times a week, with 2 of those times being at 9:30 which kind of sucks.....I can't decide which to take! I have to choose one though. Help me please!

Oh, and neither is directly relevant to my career. I'm going into teaching, majoring in History, minoring in Art. I don't live in a place that speaks much German either. I am German though.

Pytanie #32:

My current options for a level are German, philosophy, history and maths (stat)?

In my GCSEs I got
A for German, history and maths
B in religious studies..

However, I got A* in English literature and language.. I am thinking about taking literature but don't know which subject to replace it with.. I'm firm about taking maths, so replacing that isn't an option.

I'm more inclined in replacing either German or philosophy, mainly because I'm not sure whether I am that good at German and because I got a B in RS.

So what experiences have you got in either of these subjects and what do you recommend I do?
Do you think I should even replace any subject? I mean, they're all respected subjects.

I didn't enjoy English at all because of my teacher, however, I am moving to a different school so teaching might be different.

I am intrigued by philosophy and languages but have no idea how I will cope..

Pytanie #33:

Are these good GCSEs?

I got my GCSE results yesterday and I was disappointed as some of the results were not as good as I was predicted. Today at enrollment for school sixth form I was even more disappointed when my headteacher said my grades would not get me into a good university course. I wanted to do Classical Civilisations, History, German, Maths and Chemistry in sixth form next year but my school made me take Biology, Chemistry, Maths and History

These are my results:

RE: A
Business Studies: B
Drama: B
English Lang: A*
English Lit: A
German: A
ICT: B
History: A
Maths: B
PE (Sports Leader Award): Pass
Double Award Science: AA

General Eisenhower warned us, was he right?

It is a matter of history that when the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces, General Dwight Eisenhower, found the victims of the death camps he ordered all possible photographs to be taken, and for the German people from surrounding villages to be ushered through the camps and even made to bury the dead.

He did this because he said in words to this effect:

'Get it all on record now - get the films - get the witnesses -because somewhere down the road of history some bastard will get up and say that this never happened'
This week, the UK debated whether to remove The Holocaust from its school curriculum because it 'offends' the Muslim population which claims it never occurred. It is not removed as yet. However, this is a frightening portent of the fear that is gripping the world and how easily each country is giving into it.

It is now more than 60 years after the Second World War in Europe ended.
Now, more than ever, with Iran, among others, claiming the Holocaust to be 'a myth,' it is imperative to make sure the world never forgets
How many years will it be before the attack on the World Trade Center
NEVER HAPPENED because it offends the Muslim population

Pytanie #35:

What do the British think about Germany?

Hey everyone :) I'm from Germany and I work on a school project about Anglo-German relations. To top the whole thing off I need questionnaires... So it would be great if you could answer the following questions (please give reasons too). Unfortunately I can only use answers from British people, but feel free to answer even if you are not from Britain. Thanks a lot!
What comes to your mind when you hear the word “Germany”?
How do you imagine the typical German?
Do you feel any antipathy in regard to the Germans?
Would you like to live in Germany?
Are you interested in Germany history, way of living, culture?

Wow Jane thank you. :) You've made me feel a bit better. The main reason I was feeling depressed was because of friends results and my hopes of getting a couple of A's. But you've made me realise that yeah I managed to pass the ones I need in the future. SO thanks!

GCSE Grades - Should I apply to Oxford?

I've just got my GCSE results and they are as follows:

English - A*
English Lit - A*
French - A*
German - A*
History - A*
Music - A*
Religious Education (short course) - A*
Citizenship (short course) - A
Core Science - A
Maths - B
Additional Science - B

I'm planning on taking Eng Lit, French, German, and History for AS Level. I'd like to read Eng Lit at university and I'm seriously considering applying to Oxford. I've heard from various sources that the average applicant has 6-7 A* GCSE grades, but does anyone have any more specific information?

Also, is it worth seeing if I can somehow retake the short course citizenship exam? I took it at the end of Year 10 and only got an A due to bad time management and not reading the paper properly. I chose not to retake it the following November, and now wish I had. Is it really worth it?

Please help! :) xx
Thanks for the feedback, everyone :) Yeah, I am lacking slightly in the life skills department! I'm hoping the maths/science won't matter too much as I'm not applying for anything related to those subjects, so I'll just have to work really hard on getting As/A*s at A-Level.
Hi Shane,

That's a bit weird - I haven't heard of two languages at A Level being frowned upon before, and I know someone who got into UCL to study Eng Lit with A-Levels in French, Spanish, English Lit, and History. There have been quite a few articles lately about a crisis in languages, with fewer students taking French and German - plus languages are considered amongst the hardest subjects. I thought about music but it's not classed as a 'traditional' subject, and I'm really not A-Level standard for maths!
Also, I definitely don't want to give up German because I would hate to lose the ability to speak a language. But thanks for the advice! :)

Questions about joining the Royal Navy?

I am 14 years old and live in the UK. When I leave school I was planning on going to collage for about 2.5 years. After that, i was planning on getting a job for one year, then after the year is gone, when i am around 19-20, i wanted to join the Royal Navy. I wanted to become an officer and become an Aircrew officer pilot.

For my GCSE's, My automatic options were Maths,English,Science,IT,Pshce, and RE. I picked for my additional 3 subjects - History, German and PE. It says i need 5 GCSE's(A*-C) which i think i can get. I am very good at History, and im good at pe, and in german, i think im above average. In English, i can improve but since im going into year 10 i will focus more. Im good at maths, i got a 6C in the end of year test, which is pretty good for me. In IT i need to focus more. but i will get better. In science, i had a teacher who wouldnt teach, she was basically the worst in the school, she didnt like me because i am chatty, she never taught me and i think i could do better at science.

It also says i need 180 UCAS points. i do not know what these are and how i can achieve them. I would appreciate if someone would tell me.

Also I would want to get tattoos, and alot of them around my body. Would this be allowed?

Thanks for all your help.

whatever happened to the man responsible for bombing so many German civilians.."Bomber Harrison"?

was this , in fact, his nick name.."Bomber Harrison"?

was he scottish or where he was from?? what happened to him during the war and after the war with Korea ? was he in any other wars?

how he is looked at today by history book writers as well as general ideas given about him on the history channel etc?

how they hold this man responsible for killing german civilians and how many is he repsonsible for killing? do you think this is right since THIS WAS HIS JOB? if you are a general..you are required to subdue the enemy? or why the British were not concentrating on destroying the Germany factories instead of bombing apartment complexes? (did they in fact bomb apartments or 'flats" in german cities? how often? and why?)

thanks for your answers!

Pytanie #44:

how did the English and British people feel about being ruled by a German Monarchy of the house of Hanover?

as well as how many felt about being ruled by a "dutch" monarchy of the house of Orange from the Netherlands? was this unprecedented in British history as well?

when , if ever in British history had German or Dutch monarch ruled Britain? as i know the Normans and the Scottish did, but was the house of hanover or the house of "windsor" no the FIRST Germany monarchs to rule Britain as well as they had relations with the Kaiser in Germany as well as they were both related to the wife of Tsar Nicholas in Russia..so was this unprecendented in history to have 3 related familes ruling both Russia , Germany as well as the "Great" Britain?

why even the Scottish and Welsh men fought for "King Billy" of the Netherlands against their own from Ireland? what prompted this?

please explain what you can

thanks for your answers!

Pytanie #45:

why did the Nazis think of the Slavic people as "Sub-humans"? is this true btw?

where is there proof that the Nazis thought this?

and what is a "Sub human"? what is meant by this? how the Slavic people heard about this and is this why the nazis refused to allow the Slavic people in the Ukraine or elsewhere to join them against fighting Stalin? is there also proof that this happened? where or from where there is proof?

which qualities they possessed that made them "Sub humans" according to the Nazis? as the "Slavic" tribes are reknowned in history for being very physically strong, as well as mentally strong..so is this a bit of a ignorant opinion by Hitler? how he could have been this misinformed or ignorant? especially since he was so educated in other things?

please explain as well as give your own opinion.

were many "Germans" also partially at least "Slavic"?

Pytanie #46:

do u have any awesome stories about ur families ancestry, could u share?

Share your family history! Any relatives who fought in famous conflicts or involved in history in any way? What is your family heritage? thanks!

lol get ready for a long tale.

My paternal great grandfather was a polish jew whose parents where killed during nazi occupation but he survived and fought as a partisan when he was still a child. After world war 2 with the war over and having no family in poland he eventually migrated to what is now called isreal and joined the Central Institute for Coordination now known as Massod where he became a nazi hunter.

Meanwhile during WW2 my maternal great grand father was the son of a religious king of the Igbo tribe in Nigeria, he was the heir to the Nri kingdom. he was pressed into military service for britain, where he fought in North Africa and then later in Burma i think. He was then captured by the Japanese, his name was Kenkwikage Njoku, i dont know if i spelt it right. after WW2 on his way back home while he was in North Africa he met my paternal great grand father Benedict Jacob Lazarus who was on his way to what was then British Palestine. They met in egypt aparently jacob saved Njoku from being captured by arab slave dealers. While there they both worked briefly as police for the British Empire then Jacob married my maternal great grand mother a nurse who was an Ethiopian Jew called Afework and they both moved to Isreal.

Njoku finally moved back to nigeria where he tried to invest the money he had made during his military career in buisnesses but was restricted by the white british colonists. fortunately he came from a rich family and through connections got an education and became a lowly civil servant which he hated, he still kept in contact with jacob. during this time my great grandfather njoku began to really hate the british and white people in general as he felt stifled due to discrimination by the british from jobs he was qualified for . and the stories of german concentration camps that jacob told him about didnt help. so during the kenyan mau mau revolt he was quick to sneak to kenya and volunteer, unfortunately the revolt did not end well and he returned to nigeria on 1st october 1960 on nigerias independence day. meanwhile jacob fought in the six day war in isreals golan hights or something like that, he eventually retired from mossad, by then already had a son my grand father joseph lazarus, who wanted to join mossad like his dad to hunt nazis. unfortunately not just being half black but also looking half black he couldnt join.

instead he joined the isreali armed forces dis illusioned from racism he was part of the contingent of isreali mecenaries that where sent to nigeria to support biafra the igbo dominated rebellion movement, while there he seeked out his fathers friend kenkwikage Njoku, my maternal great grand father. while in eastern nigeria he met my maternal grandfather kenkwikages son Osueke Njoku. who was an igbo resistance fighter. the fought together as joseph believed the biafran/igbo cause was just and saw the genocide by nigerians towards them the same way as that suffered by jews in poland. after biafra lost the war, he returned to isreal and fought in the yon kappur war during which he married a mixed egyptian nubian nurse called arafat, who became my paternal grand mother. they both had a child among many others a son called Benedict Joseph Lazarus. mean while Osueke Njoku my maternal grand father settled down in eastern nigeria and married an indian woman called deya the daughter of an indian teacher who remained in nigeria after the british left., they had a daughter among other children called Esther Deya Njoku. well to cut a long story short my father Benedict Joseph Lazarus settled in nigeria from isreal and married my mother Esther Deya Njoku and i was born as Benedict Enyinnaya Njoku-Lazarus a bantu son of anarchy lol. i know i always told my families stories during my schools show and tell along with my grand parents pictures and weapon from the wars and stuffs from the wars

The use and learning of the German language are promoted by a number of organisations. The government-backed Goethe Institut (named after the famous German author Johann Wolfgang von Goethe) aims to enhance the knowledge of German culture and language within Europe and the rest of the world.
